Flying on Alaska Airlines with a dog

Dogs in the Cabin

Alaska Airlines permits small pets, including dogs, to travel in the cabin as long as the combined weight of the pet and carrier does not exceed 20 lbs (9 kg). Pets must be at least 8 weeks old, and each passenger is allowed to travel with a maximum of 2 pets, provided that two seats are purchased. Up to 2 pets of the same breed can share a single carrier. Alaska Airlines accommodates 1 pet in first class and up to 5 pets in the main cabin. Pets must remain fully contained within their carriers at all times in the boarding area, Alaska Lounge, and on the aircraft. Passengers must be at least 18 years old to travel with a pet in the cabin.

Dogs in Checked Baggage

Alaska Airlines allows small domestic animals like dogs to travel as checked baggage if the combined weight of the pet and carrier does not exceed 150 lbs (68 kg). Dogs must be at least 8 weeks old to travel as checked baggage. Only 1 adult pet is allowed in each carrier, or 2 live puppies that weight less than 20 lbs each (9 kg). The fee for pets traveling as checked baggage is $100 each way. Due to the extreme temperatures that may be experienced in the cargo area, Alaska Air may decline pets if they deem the weather too unsafe.
