Flying on Spirit Airlines with a dog

Dogs in the Cabin

Spirit Airlines allows small dogs, cats, and household birds to travel in the cabin on domestic flights, provided the combined weight of the pet and carrier does not exceed 40 lbs (18 kg). Small dogs and cats are also allowed in the cabin on flights to and from Puerto Rico or St. Thomas. Passengers are permitted one pet carrier each, which can hold up to two pets. However, pets are not allowed on international flights. Spirit Airlines limits the number of pet carriers in the cabin to four on routes within the United States, including San Juan, Puerto Rico, and St. Thomas.

Dogs in Checked Baggage

Unfortunately, Spirit Airways does not allow pets to travel as checked baggage.

Carrier Guidelines

For pets traveling in the cabin, carriers must not exceed 18" x 14" x 9" (45.72 cm x 35.56 cm x 22.86 cm). Carriers should be spacious enough to allow pets to stand upright and move comfortably while remaining securely contained inside. Pets must stay in their carriers at all times during the flight.

Other Restrictions

Only 6 pets are permitted on each flight with Spirit Airlines.
